The winemaker

The first vintage dates back to 1981. In 1997, it was acquired by Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, whose owner Madame de Lencquesaing had set herself the goal of expanding her range of wines by taking over a Cru Bourgeois close to Pichon. In 1998, major investments were made in the château's 35-hectare vineyard and cellars. Today, the grape varieties are 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The domaine's terroir consists mainly of gravelly-sandy soils with good drainage, extending over a clay subsoil. In 2007, Champagne House Louis Roederer acquired Château Bernadotte and Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. The estate's terroirs were analyzed, and the vineyard was renovated by regrouping plots and planting new vines.
