The winemaker
The history of Château Beauregard
Beauregard's history dates back to the 12th century, to the time of the Knights Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, to whom we owe the famous Templar Cross, Beauregard's emblem. However, it was not until five centuries later that the first building was erected, and then replaced by the present château in the Napoleonic era. The Girondine Carthusian building is surrounded by a moat and overlooked by two magnificent dovecotes. From here, your view extends over a park designed by Victor Louis, architect of Bordeaux's Grand Théâtre. In the mid-18th century, Château Beauregard switched from mixed farming to viticulture. Today, it enjoys a prestigious reputation for its production of Pomerol wines.
The terroir of Château Beauregard
The Château Beauregard vineyard stretches along the southeastern edge of the Pomerol plateau. The soil is clay and sand, dominated by gravel. The vines cover 17.5 hectares, comprising 35 plots planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The entire estate is farmed organically, maintaining a lively underground fauna that ensures the balance of the soil and therefore of the grapes. Trees and shrubs are deliberately maintained on the estate, enabling the subsistence of useful fauna to combat vine pests.
Chateau Beauregard wines
Château Beauregard grows 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet franc. Since 2016, 4% Cabernet sauvignon has been added, but it will not enter the blends for a few years. The domaine offers 3 red wines:
Château Beauregard
Château Beauregard is a dense, compact wine. Its fruity aromas are exceptional and its long finish on the palate allows you to enjoy all the nuances of a great wine. The 30% Cabernet franc content adds both freshness and depth. It's a good wine to keep and drink with game in sauce, as well as crusty cheeses.Le Benjamin de Beauregard
Benjamin de Beauregard is the estate's freshest wine. The result of a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, its ruby-red color sparkles and foreshadows its fruity bouquet, dominated by strawberry aromas. Benjamin de Beauregard is made from young vines and some sandy plots. Drink it young and enjoy it with grilled meats. On the cheese side, it's a perfect match for fresh or dried goat's milk or ewe's milk cheeses.Le Pavillon de Beauregard
Pavillon de Beauregard is a very fruity wine, with very round flavors. It has a long finish and goes well with light starters, as well as creamy desserts or tarts of all kinds.
