The winemaker
The history of the vineyard
At the end of the 18th century, Henri Labarthe bought Château Beaumont and began work on the land to plant a vineyard. He did not achieve this goal, but another owner of the estate, Monsieur Bonnin, completed this project and produced the first vintages. During the 19th century, the Marquis d'Aligre developed the vineyard and tripled the area under vine. Today, Château Beaumont is owned by two groups: GMF and Suntory. This Japanese company also owns a trading house "Barrière Frères" and Beychevelle.
The estate
The 114-hectare vineyard extends over a terroir consisting of gravelly hilltops characteristic of this region of Haut-Médoc. The Cabernet Sauvignon is planted on more than half of the land, the Merlot on 40% and the vineyard is completed with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The estate applies environmentally friendly methods of wine production and cultivation. This reasoned approach is long-standing, for example, it follows the specifications of the label "Terra Vitis" since 2004 and is committed to the first association of Bordeaux for the EMS (Environmental Management System). The relevance of this global approach has been certified by the award of the HVE (High Environmental Value) label at its highest level. The concern to use methods that respect nature goes hand in hand with the desire to produce wines of excellence and Château Beaumont receives advice from Yves Boissenot for the vinification of its vintages.
The wines
The Chateau Beaumont in the Haut-Medoc appellation is the property's first wine. The 2017 vintage is a garnet-colored red wine produced from three of the four grape varieties planted on the estate: Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot. The nose is fresh and very fruity with delicate tannins. It offers aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry, with hints of vanilla. The mouth brings woody touches with spicy notes. It is a wine that can be served with a plate of cold meats, a red meat dish, a leg of lamb, a pan of mushrooms or a hard mountain cheese. It also goes perfectly with a chocolate mousse.
The cuvée les Tours de Beaumont is the estate's second wine. The 2014 vintage offers a fruity nose with black fruit aromas. It is an empyreumatic wine, which develops its full potential with a few years in the cellar.
