The winemaker

Michel Bécot became owner of the estate in 1969. He comes from a long line of winegrowers, settled in Saint-Émilion for two and a half centuries. He expanded the château's vineyard through the acquisition of several parcels, and now owns just under 17 hectares of this exceptional terroir.

The winery

In 1996, Michel Bécot obtained the classification of his vineyard as Premier Grand Cru de Saint Emillion. The property is located on the limestone plateau, and the soil is typical of this prestigious appellation, with a stéride clay-limestone terroir. The grape varieties are classic for this region of Bordeaux, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, the latter making up the majority. The vines are cultivated using integrated farming methods, and experts regularly praise the elegance and character of the exceptional wines produced each year by the Bécot family, with great regularity.

The estate remains a family property. Gérard and Dominique Bécot took over from their father, before passing the estate on to their own children. Today, it is managed by Juliette Bécot, Gérard's daughter, and her husband, Julien Barthe. Caroline and Pierre Bécot, Dominique's children, have also joined the family adventure.

The wines

The estate's flagship cuvée is Château Beau-Séjour Bécot, a red wine made from a blend of the property's three grape varieties, two-thirds of which are Merlot. It's a classic Saint-Emilion, with mad elegance and masterful fruitiness, and a velvety, fresh mouthfeel. It has excellent ageing potential. The estate also produces a second wine, also classified as a Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru, Tourelle de Beau-Séjour Bécot. It's a sumptuous Bordeaux, perfect for foie gras, pan-fried ceps or a characterful cheese like maroilles.
