The Cadillac appellation d'origine contrôlée is located near Bordeaux on the hillsides along the Garonne River. The appellation is named after the town, which is located about 30 kilometres from Bordeaux, and is adjacent to Loupiac and Sainte-Croix du Mont, two other appellations producing sweet wines. The vineyard covers about 180 hectares in 22 communes around Cadillac.Terroir
The appellation enjoys a qualitative terroir on hillsides with very good sun exposure at an average altitude of 50 metres. The terroir is composed of gravelly gravel, clay-limestone and clay-gravel. There are three different soils in the appellation: brown limestone, brown stony and boulbènes.Figures
The winegrowers of the appellation produce about 6000 hectolitres each year. 60 producers are present in the Cadillac AOC.Varieties
For the wines of the AOC Cadillac 3 different grape varieties are used: Muscadelle, Semillon and Sauvignon. Semillon represents 70% of the vineyard, Sauvignon 20% and Muscadelle 10%.AOC wines
The AOC Cadillac wine is a sweet white wine that is drunk between 8 and 10 °C.It is a wine with a golden yellow colour in its youth and which tends towards a more amber colour with the years. On the nose there are floral aromas of acacia and honeysuckle, fruity aromas of apricot and citrus fruit and notes of honey. On the palate, this wine is very fruity and becomes increasingly smooth with age. These wines have an ageing potential of at least 10 years.
