The winemaker
The history of the Borie-Manoux estate
The Borie-manoux family originally owned Château Batailley, a vineyard dating back to the 17th century. The estate then expanded with the acquisition of several châteaux with prestigious vintages: Château Trotte Vieille, Château Beau-Site, Château du Domaine de l'Eglise, Château Lynch-Moussas and Château la Croix du Casse, the latest estate acquired in 2005. Borie Manoux has also become the owner of wine trading companies, and has acquired a stake in Drouet Frères, based in Vallet in the Loire Valley.
The wines produced by Borie-Manoux
Batailley is a classic Pauillac, with a wonderful dark ruby color, vigorous and powerful, with clean blackcurrant notes. Château Trotte Vieille has produced a 1er Grand Cru AOC Saint-Émilion since 1955. Château Beau-Site is an award-winning AOC Saint-Estèphe. Château du Domaine de l'Eglise is one of the finest wines in the Pomerol appellation, renowned for its roundness and elegance. Finally, Château la Croix du Casse is a rich, fine and seductive wine, in the image of its exceptional terroir.
The Borie-Manoux terroirs
The Château Trotte Vieille terroir has a nice thickness of clay above the limestone rock. Château Beau-Site's vineyard stretches over stony slopes, with carefully preserved vines. The vineyards of Château La Croix du Casse are located on the southernmost part of the Pomerol plateau, on soils combining gravel and ancient sand, with a good deal of iron dross underneath, which gives the wines their much-appreciated character.
