The winemaker
The Descombe Family, since 1905
Since 1905, the Descombe Family has been established in the heart of the village of Saint-Etienne-des-Oullières, a small commune in the Rhône department located between Villefranche sur Saône and Belleville sur Saône. Today, the Descombe family is represented by the 5th generation: Marine, Kévin and François. Since 2017, this new generation has initiated groundbreaking projects, both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
The two Descombe Family estates
Château de Pougelon in Beaujolais was built in the 17th century. The Descombes are the château's third owners. Domaine Passy le Clou in the Chablis region was originally created in 1950 to grow cereals, before the land was given over exclusively to vines. In 2017, the Descombe family took over the estate and gave it its current name.
Partisans of sustainable agriculture that regenerates soils and ecosystems, all the estates are certified High Environmental Value level 3. The Château de Pougelon estate is even in its second year of conversion to organic farming.
For the past three years, the Descombe family has embarked on a vast agroecology and agroforestry project.
Characteristics of Famille Descombe wines
Due to its two estates, the range of Vins de la Famille Descombe wines is diversified.
For Beaujolais, you can choose between Beaujolais-Villages (a fresh, gourmet, light wine), Brouilly (the most southerly of the Beaujolais crus), Fleurie (fleshy and velvety, evolving spicy notes with age), Morgon (a cru de garde representative of the appellation's six climats) and Juliénas (a fleshy, full-bodied wine with aromas of flowers, red fruits and spices).
Chablis wines include Petit-Chablis (floral and citrus aromas on a mineral background), Chablis (a fairly light color revealing notes of lime blossom, mint and acacia mixed with licorice and cut hay aromas) and Chablis Premier Cru Beauroy (a great Burgundy wine, structured and long on the palate).
