The winemaker

The Marcel Lapierre story

In 1909, Michel Lapierre, a farmer from the Beaujolais region, settled in Villié-Morgon with his wife Annette. He became cellar master at Domaine Les Chênes, which has since become the estate's winery.

Their son, Camille, began his winemaking career at just 14, working in the vines as a sharecropper alongside his parents. In 1941, Camille married Lucienne Mathieu. They had three children, including a son, Marcel Lapierre, born in 1950. At that time, the wine produced was sold by the Fleurie cooperative, but Camille wanted to develop his own marketing. He began by bottling the wine himself, in order to label it with his own name. In 1960, he began acquiring vines, to own a 7-hectare estate.

Marcel Lapierre took over the estate in 1973. He continued his father's work with his wife, Marie, whom he met in 1980. From 1981 onwards, when he met Jules Chauvet, a well-known researcher, he began to make wine without SO2 or yeast, and to cultivate his vines biodynamically, without chemical fertilizers or weedkillers. Marcel Lapierre died in 2010, leaving the estate to his children Mathieu and Camille.

Marcel Lapierre's vineyard

Marcel Lapierre's vineyards belong to the Beaujolais region, with an acidic, draining nature. The result is a poor soil that Gamay particularly likes. The estate's vines belong to the Morgon appellation. They grow on soil considered to be "rotten rock". This means that it is the result of the decomposition of eruptive rocks.

Five lieux-dits make up the Morgon appellation: Les Micouds, Corcellette, Grand Cras, Les Charmes and Côte du Py. The latter is the only hill in the appellation. Gamay is the unique grape variety of Beaujolais. The climate on the Marcel Lapierre estate combines temperate oceanic weather with the northern influence of the nearby Alps. The seasons are very marked.

The wines of Domaine Marcel Lapierre

Domaine Marcel Lapierre - AOC Morgon - Rouge

The AOC Morgon red wine is a full-bodied wine. Its ripe fruit aromas can be found in the nose, as well as in its frank, warm mouthfeel. It's a gourmet wine that goes delightfully well with grilled meats and summer salads.

Raisin Gaulois du domaine Marcel Lapierre

Raisin Gaulois comes from a vineyard of young vines averaging 15 years old. It is particularly lively, very fruity and always very fresh. We recommend drinking it young, to accompany your barbecues and planchas.
