The winemaker

The Tourniers estate has been in the Kugler family for generations. In 1999, Marc Henri Kugler took over the estate in partnership with Régis Bourgine. Together, they farm 5 hectares, 4.5 of which are planted with Gamay and 0.5 with Chardonnay. Since 2000, cultivation methods have evolved, with the cessation of fertilizers, grassing, soil cultivation and foliage management. In this spirit, we recently planted our first parcel of white grapes. Harvesting is mechanical for the rosé and IGP vines, and manual for the rest, with 40-kilo skips and sorting on the vine. For this stage, one instruction sums up the estate's philosophy perfectly: only pick what you want to eat. Similarly, the vatting and devatting processes are carried out on conveyor belts, to avoid excessive handling. The use of yeast, pigeage, délestage and cuvaison are not systematic, the Kugler-Bourgine duo adapting their work to each plot, each cuvée, each wine, each vintage. It's a job of observation and accompaniment, in a way, to guide the grapes without constraining them too much.
