The winemaker
The producer
Born into a family of winegrowers, Gérard Delin bought the wine estate, then called Clos des Nugues, in 1976. Over the years, he acquired new plots, gradually building the current vineyard, a mosaic of terroirs with a wide variety of appellations.
His son Gilles joined him in 2000. Since his father's retirement in 2008, he has been running the estate with his wife, continuing the work begun by his parents.
The estate
Located in the commune of Lancié, the estate is run using integrated farming methods and has received HVE certification. Work in the vineyards and in the winery is carried out with respect for terroirs and people, with manual harvesting and low-temperature vinification.
The multiplicity of terroirs offers varied conditions for the vines, with sandy-clay, granitic and sandy-granitic soils.
The grape varieties planted are the classic red and white grape varieties accepted in Beaujolais. Of the: 34 hectares of vines on the estate, 30 hectares are reds with mainly Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc and just under four hectares of white grapes, solely Chardonnay. The uniqueness of Domaine des Nugues lies in the presence of 6700 m2 of Syrah among the red grape varieties, i.e. 2% of the red stock, and since 2019, a 3500 m2 plot of Vidocq, a mildew- and powdery mildew-resistant red grape variety derived from a cross between two grape varieties: Régent and Bouquet.
Some of the vines are over a century old, with an average vine age of 45 years.
The wines
The Domaine des Nugues, vintage 2018 is a Beaujolais Village that is both rich and fine, with aromas of black fruits and very well-balanced spicy notes. The palate offers a beautifully long finish and the cuvée has good ageing potential.
Cuvée Libertine was first produced in 2006. This 100% Gamay press rosé offers an original expression of this grape variety, with a gourmet palate combining acidic aromas and a lovely sweetness.
Cuvée En Bel Air is a floral, fruity red Fleurie with a deep ruby color. The nose is fruity, with aromas of black and red fruits and spicy notes. This elegant wine offers a long finish with persistent tannins.
