In 1970, Jean-Jacques Mélinand acquired the Clos du Pavillon vineyards in Fleurie. At the time, the vineyard covered 4 hectares and the wines were vinified in the property adjoining the clos. As the years went by, jean-jacques began to feel cramped, dreaming of larger spaces, and decided to cultivate new plots, still in the fleurie appellation. His desire to work more and more on his terroir led to a problem that was not without consequences. The vat room where the wines are vinified reached its maximum capacity and could not accommodate any more grapes. So, in 1989, Jean-Jacques had a new vinification facility built on the plateau 500 meters from the Clos, in a place called "Les Marrans". At the time, the domaine owned several parcels in the Fleurie, Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages appellations. As 13 years earlier, the problem of size arose again. The domaine set about enlarging the cuvage. 2.5 hectares of vines on the Chiroubles slopes were acquired in the "aux côtes" area.
