The winemaker
This 62-hectare estate, 26 of which are dedicated to vines, is steeped in history. Traces of the estate date back to 1662, when it was bought by a certain Pierre d'Assier, then squire and secretary to the king. This nobleman played a major role in the vineyard's development, investing heavily in its success.
The geography was also ideal for him, with the estate overlooking the Saône plain and enjoying breathtaking panoramic views. The terroir, meanwhile, was prodigious, with a clay-limestone soil on which pinot noir and chardonnay got on wonderfully well.
In 1830, one of his descendants rebuilt the château to its former splendor. Then, in 1840, the château's tower was again erected, demonstrating the grandeur of Château de Lachassagne wines. At the same time, an imposing wine press was installed, which is still in use today...
At the beginning of the 20th century, the quality of the wines was already recognized and proven by several documents of the time: the wines were considered "grand cru"...
Château de Lachassagne has been run by Olivier Bosse-Platière and his wife Véronique since 2007. Olivier trained in the vineyard and had several experiences in different estates in Burgundy and towards the Costières de Nîmes. The idea was always in the back of his mind to return to Beaujolais, as he is a native of the region. Taking over Château de Lachassagne was an obvious choice for this man who is determined to make great wines from this prodigious terroir...
