The winemaker

A winery with an ancient and prestigious history

The château was built in 1676 and the estate has been producing wine for several centuries. From the outset, the vines were planted on the property's best land, with the most suitable exposure. In 1771, exceptional viticultural facilities were created, including an impressive listed winery, with a 108-meter cellar designed for a 150-hectare harvest.

Château de la Chaize produces wines that are exported internationally and highly appreciated, particularly in the United States. The 2001 vintage of "le Clos de la Chapelle des Bois" was even served at a state dinner given by the Queen of England.

The ecological transition

Today, a dual project is unfolding with a 10-year projection to achieve its objectives. On the one hand, the aim is the complete restoration of the buildings and château under the direction of the chief architect of historic buildings, and on the other, a commitment to an environmentally-friendly approach that is both ambitious and demanding.

The Château de la Chaize estate is now in an era of change, with the aim of implementing fully organic viticulture. Another ambitious project is to achieve complete electrical and thermal autonomy. The ultimate aim is to use only electrically powered equipment and renewable energies, to achieve carbon neutrality and to implement zero waste production methods by valorizing every by-product of the business.

The challenge is not to obtain labels, but to create a virtuous dynamic, in a quest for exemplarity and harmony between the estate and its terroir. The team's aim is to find the right balance between the use of modern technologies and the use of ancient know-how in the ageing and vinification of each cuvée.

In this way, Château de la Chaize uses both technical innovations and simple, natural methods to complement each other: mulching, controlled grassing, the addition of natural organic matter, humidity management, and so on.

Chateau de la Chaize wines, red wines with character

Le Brouilly du Château de la Chaize is a wine made by blending a selection of grape varieties around the château, with aromas of cherries, sweet spices and dried rose petals. This red wine is well-balanced and greedy.

Les deux amis - Brouilly is a cuvée inspired by the fables of la fontaine, with delicate aromas of red fruits, mainly strawberries and raspberries.

Combiliaty - Brouilly comes from an exceptional terroir, one of the greatest in the Brouilly appellation, on the lieu-dit of the same name. The shallow granite soil combined with a south-easterly exposure produces a wine built for ageing, both powerful and virile.
