The winemaker
Since 1927, it has brought together passionate winegrowers who bring out the best in the region's terroirs over a 300-hectare vineyard. They produce their cuvées with respect for tradition and using ancestral methods. Cave de Fleury wines are characterized by their minerality, fruitiness and freshness.
Marguerite Chabert was the first woman to run a cooperative winery in France. She was president of the Cave de Fleurie from 1946 and remained at its head for almost 40 years. A woman of character, she was able to impose her views in a traditionally male-dominated sector, and led the winery to excellence. She was awarded the Légion d'Honneur in 1975. On her death in 1992, the entire profession paid her an emotional tribute, recognizing her immense contribution to the French wine world.
It brings together demanding winemakers committed to producing the highest quality cuvées. Successive directors have made major investments, installing concrete vats in the late 1960s, followed by the construction of a winery with 32 temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Today, the Fleurie winery boasts state-of-the-art production facilities. In addition, they have set up traceability tools, enabling them to check the provenance and quality of each cuvée.
White wines are made from Chardonnay, but Gamay is Cave de Fleury's main grape variety. It thrives on the varied terroirs that make up the vineyard: soils of schist, other silty soils, volcanic rock and granite. The many vineyards also benefit from a variety of climates and exposures, offering wines with distinctive aromatic profiles.
Among the many cuvées offered by the winery are the terroir cuvées, highly reputed among Fleury's production: La Chapelle au bois, La Madone and Les Garants. The winery has also produced two cuvées in tribute to President Marguerite Chabert: Subtil and Intense.
