In the 90s, roy richards and mark walford imported gérard gauby's wines for the English market. Gérard gauby was convinced that the vineyards of the fenouillèdes region, high up in the foothills of the Pyrenees, had a cooler climate and the potential to produce high-quality wines. So he suggested they form a partnership to exploit these vineyards. Together, they bought vines in the best locations ... and an old house in the high-altitude village of saint martin de fenouillet, located in the heart of the vineyards. The house became the first soula winery, and from the outset in 2001, the red and white wines were renowned for being pure, full of vitality and character. By 2008, the project had outgrown the premises at saint martin. So the winery moved to the foot of the mountain, to the restored former prugnanes cooperative winery, just off the d117. Gérald standley (who had worked in bordeaux) joined the team, initially assisting gérard gaudy as co-manager and later managing the domaine alone.
