The winemaker
The history of the estate
The BOTT GEYL estate is a family estate whose history begins in 1775, when the forefathers of the GOTT family started cultivating the estate established in Ribeauvillé. For its part, the GEYL family is also part of a winegrowing and winemaking tradition.
The union of the two families was celebrated in 1926, with the marriage of Frédéric Paul BOTT and Andrée GEYL. Settled in Ribeauvillé, they gave birth to two sons, including Edouard who founded the BOTT GEYL estate in 1953 after studying viticulture. After many years of hard work, the estate finally produced its first harvest in 1961. The latter is vinified in the cellar of Beblenheim.
Using avant-garde methods for the time, he extended his vineyard from 4 to 14 hectares in 40 years. Bottling at the property was established in 1961. In 1993, his son Jean-Christophe took over the reins of the estate.
The terroir
The estate was converted to Organic Agriculture in 2000, and was certified Biodynamic in 2002.
Harvesting is done exclusively by hand, in order to select the grapes at their perfect maturity. They are transported from the vineyard to the estate in small crates to damage the grapes as little as possible.
The wines
Each wine produced by the BOTT GEYL estate benefits from the originality of the terroir on which it grew. The terroirs being very different, the wines are consequently of a great variety and present a wide declination of flavors and characters.
Each cuvée has both power and length in the mouth, ensuring a tasty fullness on fairly young vintages.
