As in many other terroirs in 2010, the Pinot-Gris Rangen developed a nice noble rot, while the Riesling remained much healthier. Rangen benefits from a late-ripening climate that is counterbalanced by a very sunny exposure, which often enables this terroir to catch up with and surpass many earlier-ripening terroirs. The combined effect of the Thur river, which brings humidity and sunshine, and the dark volcanic soil, which is very drying, can explain the presence of noble rot on a grape variety as fragile as Pinot-Gris, especially in the lower part of the vineyard near the river. Fruit set was greater on this variety, as flowering took place earlier. Fermentation was fairly rapid (three months), finishing with a mellow balance, which is normal for a wine of such richness.
Appearance
Bright yellow color.
Aroma
The nose already reveals a beautiful intensity of fruit. This wine needs to continue evolving, but the glass is literally overflowing with Rangen aromas (light smoke, white fruit, etc.).
Wine Fruity | Smoked
Taste
The palate is immediately marked by great terroir subtlety and quiet strength. Reserved but more persistent, everything is still in the making. This wine is virtually unalterable, even when opened for weeks.
