In a few words ...

Clos Windsbuhl is a historic vineyard located at the top of the village of Hunawihr, on Jurassic limestone terroir. It was first mentioned in 1324, when Windsbuhl was owned by the Habsburgs of Austria, who also used it as a hunting lodge. This vineyard benefits from a late-ripening climate that produces elegant, racy wines. The choice of Gewurztraminer was probably a challenge at the time of planting (60's and 70's), as this grape needs heat for ripening, but the soil is very stony and well drained, so the grapes reach high ripeness every year. Flowering began just at the end of the cold period, but yields were still very low. As in many vintages in the past, Windsbuhl was harvested rich, with lovely ripe acidity, and fermentation stopped with plenty of residual sugar.

Tasting notes

Aroma

The nose is discreet, developing a very complex mineral intensity for a grape variety that is often overly perfumed. The fruit and citrus aromas are masked by the terroir and the influence of ageing on lees.

Wine Fruity

Taste

Very delicate on the palate, perfectly integrating the residual sugars, which appear almost light on the finish. Likewise, the tannic richness is integrated and brings a saline sensation.
