From the 2011 vintage onwards, no more Gewurztraminer will be produced in Wintzenheim, and like Gueberschwihr and for the same reasons, this wine will henceforth be called 'Calcaire'. It seems that the few remaining winegrowers in the "Village des Vignerons" (the French translation of Wintzenheim) don't want to keep this pretty name as part of their winegrowing heritage, because preserving it woul... d have required grouped action on the part of the producers. Yet this village is home to some very interesting vintages! This wine was harvested at maturity, but with healthy grapes and relatively early, to avoid any unnecessary heaviness.
