Cotes de Duras covers an area of 1945 hectares. The red grape varieties are merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and cote(malbec). The white grape varieties are sauvignon, sémillon, muscadelle and ugni blanc. Whites are dry, crisp, racy or mellow. The reds are supple and fruity, tannic and easy to age. The 1983 vintage was a curious year, with a roller-coaster weather pattern. The evolution of the reds over time was similar. They can still provide a great deal of pleasure. The red wines are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives them finesse and length on the palate. These wines can still be enjoyed today.
