A fortress dating back to the 11th century, the Château du Roc de Thau now dominates the Gironde with its peaceful walls. In the Middle Ages, it was a proud castel, with high walls, menacing towers and a drawbridge famous in the region even before the French Revolution. This historic site welcomed the King of France, St. Louis, after the battle of Taillebourg in 1249. Today, the Schweitzer family owns and manages the estate, which is the jewel in Gauriac's crown. Only at the end of malolactic fermentation do the best vintages begin to mature in new French barrels, where month after month and gesture after gesture, the wine begins a long ageing process in the cool, silent shade of the cellar at an ambient temperature of 16°c.
Aroma
An expressive bouquet of smoky, fleshy aromas, accented by notes of cachou and pepper, and crowned by evanescent floral notes.
Taste
Full-bodied and well-balanced, with aromas of blackberry and sweet cherry, licorice and a hint of spice. The whole is both delicious and well-balanced.
