A cru bourgeois in the same league as the grand crus classés of margaux. Château Pontac-Lynch is located in Issan, in the communes of Cantenac and Margaux. It enjoys a privileged location, in the immediate vicinity of the famous Château Margaux to the north and Château Palmer to the west. In 1720, the Earl of Lynch built the present residence as a hunting lodge and developed the wine estate. Later, it became the property of M. De Pontac, administrator of the city of Bordeaux, giving it its present name. In 1952, the château was acquired by the Bondon family, whose third generation, represented by Marie-Christine Boudon, still manages the estate today. A Cru Bourgeois since 1932, the estate produces Château Pontac-Lynch as well as two second wines, Château Pontac-Lynch Quintessence and Château Pontac-Phénix. The Boudon family manage their vineyards using sustainable agriculture methods, producing a delicate, well-balanced wine. Robert Parker awarded the 2012 vintage a score of 86/100, with the following comment: "This seductive pontac-lynch ennobles the Margaux appellation with its elegant floral aromas and notes of undergrowth, blackcurrants and redcurrants. Full-bodied, with soft tannins, this wine is a pleasure to drink over the next 5 to 7 years.
Appearance
Dense, dark garnet-red color, tending toward violet in its youth.
Aroma
Pour l'appellation Margaux, on retrouve des fruits noirs, comme la mûre ou le cassis, parfois cuits, et une empyreumatique qui donne des effluves de café torréfié ou de réglisse.
Wine Empyreumatic | Fruity | Roasted
Taste
On the palate, the best Margaux wines are those that have perfectly integrated their tannins into their structure, giving them roundness. The nose's aromas of black fruit and tertiary flavors such as leather and vanilla are also present.
Wine Fruité | Long | Rond | Tannique
