Haut Médoc is located upstream from the Gironde estuary. The gravelly composition of the soil encourages the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are concentrated and tannic, requiring at least 6 months of ageing. When young, the nose offers aromas of red and black fruits, evolving towards spices and more or less vanilla with age. Haut Médoc is a great wine for laying down.
The 1977 vintage was a small one because of the rain, nothing matured and the result was mediocre, a winemaker's year.
Taste
Young reds are full-bodied, marked by a touch of oak and hints of sweet spices. After a few years' cellaring, the tannins mellow.
