the haut médoc is located upstream from the gironde estuary. The high gravel content of the soil encourages the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are concentrated, with a tannic structure requiring at least 6 months of ageing. When young, the nose offers aromas of red and black fruits, evolving towards spices and vanilla to a greater or lesser extent with ageing. Haut Médocs are great wines for laying down.
The 1988 vintage is a classic, with an advantage for the Right Bank. Some Pomerols and Saint Emilions eclipsed their 1989 and 1990 cadets in elegance. The red wines were very tannic, very colorful, very complex. These are long-ageing wines from which we can expect a fine, powerful bouquet as they age.
