Cahors is a small wine-growing region on the Lot. In the 19th century, its dark, almost black-red wines competed with Bordeaux. They are traditionally made from malbec, locally known as cot or auxerrois. Today, this grape variety is most often blended with the supple Merlot. Wines made from the ancient alluvial deposits of the Lot are the most complex.
The 1985 vintage is a year of seduction for both white and red wines. The reds are declining and offer fine flavors of cooked fruit.
