In and between the pine-forested hills of northern ribera del duero lie the very old vineyards of san pedro. The tempranillo vines are between 70 and 100 years old. They are therefore among the oldest vines in this wine-growing region, where the average age of the vines is 25 years. On arid, permeable limestone, stone and clay soils, tempranillo vines, also known here as tinta fina, find optimal conditions for developing small, concentrated berries.bodega san pedro was founded in 1958 in la aguilera. Until the 90s, it sold only cask wine, until Cesar Mate arrived in 1997, in the midst of his oenology studies, to earn some money during the harvest. After his studies, he worked as a winemaker at san pedro. Since then, he has become the manager. His first step as director was to invest around 300,000 euros in renovating the winery, in state-of-the-art winemaking techniques and in the best vineyards, which now cover 150 hectares.
