In a few words ...

Biondi-santi - rosso di montalcino tenuta greppo  1993symbol of montalcino, the biondi santi surname remains one of the appellation’s most notorious, producing one of the region’s finest brunellos. The winemaker, jacopo biondi santi, follows in the footsteps of his ancestors clemente, jacopo, ferruccio, tancredi and franco at the il greppo estate. After the arrival of phylloxera in the second half of the 19th century, the family developed a specific clone, known today as "il greppo";cific clone known today as bbs11 (brunello biondi santi 11), from which the unique brunello biondi santi tenuta greppo is derived. The estate's success over 200 years is based on rigorous clonal selection of Sangiovese and a non-interventionist approach to winemaking. The study of clones continues today at the castello di montepò a stone-built castle that has been part of the family heritage since its creation in the 1880s. Montalcino, home of great red wines, offers connoisseurs one of its jewels, rosso doc. It's a wine born of Brunello vineyards, but marketed without the traditional ageing process of the "frère aîn"". It is nonetheless a product of great prestige that has developed qualitatively since the concession of the doc (1983). Rosso di Montalcino has the merit of having paved the way, even in Italy, for cascade appellations, where several wines are produced from a single vineyard. Farms have the option of choosing, either at harvest or during aging, whether the wine or grapes will be destined for Brunello, production or bottling of Rosso di Montalcino. A choice well exploited by producers, considering that this doc absorbs 40% of Sangiovese-based production. This is the same area as that of Brunello, i.e. the territory of the municipality of Montalcino, excluding the areas at the bottom of the valley.
