La Bergerie de l'Hortus rouge is a blend of wines from our own vineyards with selected wines from friendly AOC Pic Saint Loup winemakers who work to the same exacting standards as we do. The wines come from plots located at the foot of the slopes, with less pronounced exposure than the mid-slope plots. On the whole, they mature later than the Domaine de l'Hortus cuvée. Soils formed on limestone scree are shallower. As a result, the vines are more sensitive to summer drought. The ripeness of the grapes means that they need to be finely crafted in the cellar, with relatively short maceration and ageing periods. Grapes are destemmed and crushed. Vatting period of 10 to 30 days, depending on grape variety and ripeness. Grenache and Syrah aged for 12 months in vats. Mourvèdre is aged in 2-wine barrels.
