The winemaker

"In the heart of Yunga's lush forest vegetation, waterways and rocky mountains lies an unexpected desert strip where magic happens..." - Alejandro Pepa, chief winemaker The most emblematic vineyards of Bodega El Esteco lie at an altitude of 1,700 to 2,000 meters above sea level. The sandy alluvial soil, strong sunshine, low humidity and wide variations between daytime and night-time temperatures give rise to a truly unique terroir. Pure mountain water nourishes the vines. The north-south orientation of the vine rows allows moderate northerly winds to cool the vineyards. Thanks to its mosaic of vineyards, Bodega El Esteco can grow a wide variety of grape varieties. Cooler sites favor the production of crisp, fragrant white wines such as Torrontés and Sauvignon Blancs. Warmer, sunnier sites are better suited to more assertive red varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Tannat. The leitmotif of El Esteco's fine wines is lively freshness, excellent balance and finesse.
